Congratulations on becoming a new Mum.
Becoming a mum is likely the most physically, emotionally and spiritually challenge you have ever been through.. these little babys sure to bring about many challenges. This is why I encourage mindfulness with all of my clients. This can be as simple as taking a step outside during a moment of feeling overwelmed and taking a deep breath, or connecting with your breath during a nappy change or breastfeed.
During these first weeks its really challenging to connect with ourselves, our mind is running wild with so many questions, thoughts, expectations, love and fears. These moments of mindfulness help us connect with our bodies again. I like to encourage parents to explore their values as parents, what is important to their family. Often we loose our values during these first weeks of parenthood and societal pressures can often led us to a place where we question what is important to us.
I incorporate self care / mindfulness in all treatment plans. You don't have to be experienced with mindfulness or meditation, this is more about taking a minute to sit with your emotions as a new mum, rather than feeling you need to find a solution to your thoughts or feelings.
I encourage mums to be active and busy during the day, this helps with your mental health and also nourishes your babys sensory hunger. I have included a number of activities available on the Northern Beaches under the resources section of my website. Please feel free to contact me if you know of any more activities I haven't added.
