Baby's can be difficult to settle for many reasons, I work with parents through possible reasons for this behaviour. We look at feeding issues/concerns, sensory input, sleeping difficulties and maternal mental health.
Parents often see a number of health professional for unsettled behaviour which can be confusing and overwhelming. It is important to understand the reason why baby may be waking or crying excessively. I undergo a thorough assessment and explore current feeding, sleeping and daily routines to understand possible reasons for unsettled behaviours. We explore 'normal' crying/fussing behaviours, night time waking, discuss prenatal expectations and maternal mental health in relation to managing cry/ fuss concerns. Our goal is to keep your babys nervous system as 'dialled down' as possible, this avoids sympathetic nervous system activation. There are a number of tools we can work with to achieve this.
During the earlier days unsettled behaviour is often due to poor fit and hold (poor latch), however as part of our consultation we explore various reasons this may be happening, and work together to make a workable, unique plan for your family.
